Borehole Casings in Zimbabwe

Casing is a large-diameter pipe that is assembled and inserted into a recently drilled section of a borehole.

Similar to the bones of a spine protecting the spinal cord, casing is set inside the drilled borehole to protect and support the water stream.

We instal uPVC the 140mm and/or 180mm borehole casings and they come in two pressure classes, Class 6 and Class 10.

Borehole casings are manufactured with selected PVC compounds to provide absolute non-corrosive pipes with excellent mechanical properties.

The casings are joined by the use of solvent cement.

Advantages Include:

1. Corrosion: The chemical inertness of uPVC makes them insensitive to all forms of corrosion, thus being excellent products for use in Borehole Drilling.

2. Cost-effective: Lower installed cost compared to conventional (steel) casings.

3. Easy handling and installation: Tough, rugged material, with easy to assemble joints.

4. Lightweight: Much lighter than steel casings, makes them user-friendly installations and saves time.

5. PVC plastic material: Resistant to corrosion as well as acids and alkalis found in some soils. No additional protection required.

6. Internally and externally flush jointed: Easy installation in a borehole and improved flow of pumped water.

7. High modulus of elasticity: Makes for stiffer casings and screens which can be designed for boreholes up to at least 200m deep.

Fact 1: Know Your Borehole Casings

The Preferred Borehole Casing In Zimbabwe Is Class 9 and 10 (Pressure Classes.)

This is because Class 9 and Class 10 Casings are more collapse resistant. The strength of a Casing is often described as collapse resistance.

Fact 2: Borehole Drilling Depth

The exact depth, of where the water is located, cannot be established by the drilling contractor nor the Water Surveyor (Borehole Siter).

Fact 3: There Is No 100% Guarantee

It is important to note that it is never a 100% guarantee that any hole will yield water, the amount and water quality can also not be guaranteed by the drilling contractor and water surveyor.
