Understanding the Variables

A common question that we are asked is “How Much Does A Borehole Cost?” While this might seem like a straightforward question to ask, the answer certainly isn’t. It is the equivalent of asking how much a car costs.

The answer is dependent on various factors. What kind of car do you need? What do you want to use the car for? There isn’t a blanket price for a car, and likewise, there isn’t one for a borehole either. The cost of a borehole is largely dependent on its depth and the amount of casing to be used. The type of rock that we have to drill through also influences the price, as does the actual ground conditions.

Drilling & Casing Costs

The cost of drilling and casing a borehole is usually $1400.00USD for 40 metres and about $45.00 per metre. This depends on the geology of the location being drilled. The single most important factor determining the cost of the borehole itself is, therefore, how deep does it have to be? (We strongly recommend that you get a geological survey to take the guesswork out of this.)

Water Storage Costs

Do you wish to install some form of water storage? This can be a simple tank or a tank place on a tank stand. We supply and install tanks of between 1000 litres and 5000 litres capacity. This would add somewhere between $500.00USD and $1000USD to the cost.

Variable Costs

Do you require extra equipment, pipe runs, more outlets, irrigation/sprinkler systems? These are the variable costs, which depend entirely on mother nature and the choices that you make.

Fixed Costs & Drilling Policies

The More Fixed Costs For Drilling and Installing A Borehole In Zimbabwe Are: The cost of the borehole pump, controls, wellhead and pipings. Together these can add up to around $1000.00USD. We use only industry benchmark types of equipment.

We will only charge you for the actual depth drilled. This means that should the geological survey indicate a required borehole depth of, say, 60m, but we find adequate supplies at 50m, then this depth is what you will be charged for, i.e. your outlay will be reduced.

Having said all of that. Our prices are otherwise fixed. Once we have agreed on a price with you, it will not change (unless of course, you change what you want us to do). As with many other things, there are of course ways of cutting costs (and corners). We choose quality and reliability.

Fact 1: Know Your Borehole Casings

The Preferred Borehole Casing In Zimbabwe Is Class 9 and 10 (Pressure Classes.)

This is because Class 9 and Class 10 Casings are more collapse resistant. The strength of a Casing is often described as collapse resistance.

Fact 2: Borehole Drilling Depth

The exact depth, of where the water is located, cannot be established by the drilling contractor nor the Water Surveyor (Borehole Siter).

Fact 3: There Is No 100% Guarantee

It is important to note that it is never a 100% guarantee that any hole will yield water, the amount and water quality can also not be guaranteed by the drilling contractor and water surveyor.

Fact 4: Siting Is Important
