Why a Water Survey is Your Best Investment Before Buying Land
In Zimbabwe, purchasing a residential stand or a farm is a significant life milestone. However, the value of that land is directly tied to its water potential.

| Before you buy, confirm the water. |
In a climate where municipal water can be unreliable, your borehole is your most valuable asset. This is why we always tell our clients: "Before you buy your stand, conduct a water survey."
There is a common myth floating around the muddy streets of Harare and the lush fields of the Highveld: "Wait for the dry season to drill your borehole." The logic seems sound—if you find water when the ground is parched, you’ve found a "forever" supply. But at Nakiso Borehole Drilling, we’re here to debunk the myths and share the ground truths about securing your water independence.
Can You Drill in the Rain?
The idea that drilling must stop when the rains start is simply a misconception. Modern drilling rigs are powerful, heavy-duty machines built to handle challenging terrain.
While the mud might make the site a bit messier, the aquifers (the underground water-bearing rocks) are hundreds of feet below the surface. They don't instantly "move" just because it’s raining outside.
The "Dry Hole" Risk
Here is the surprising reality that many homeowners don't realize: It is entirely possible to hit a dry hole during the rainy season.
You might think that because the ground is soaked and the rivers are flowing, water is everywhere. However, borehole water comes from deep-seated fractures in the rock, not the surface moisture.
- Surface Seepage vs. Deep Aquifers: Just because there is "muddy water" at 5 meters doesn't mean there is a sustainable yield at 60 meters.
- False Confidence: Some fly-by-night drillers might hit a shallow pocket of rainwater and call it a success, only for that "well" to vanish the moment the sun comes out in April.
The Crucial Importance of a Survey
A hydrogeological water survey is a scientific assessment of the groundwater potential on a specific property. Skipping this step is like buying a car without checking if it has an engine.
Financial Protection
Drilling a "dry hole" is an expensive mistake. A survey confirms if an aquifer exists before you commit your hard-earned savings to a property.
Accurate Costing
The survey estimates the required drilling depth. Knowing if you need to drill 40 meters or 100 meters allows you to negotiate the land price or budget effectively.
Sustainability
A survey determines the "recharge rate," ensuring you don't over-extract water and cause your borehole to run dry in three years.
Legal Compliance
In Zimbabwe, ZINWA (Zimbabwe National Water Authority) requires a professional siting report to issue the mandatory "Authority to Drill" permit.
Why Nakiso is the Best Choice
When your water security is on the line, you need more than just a rig; you need precision and durability. Nakiso Borehole Drilling has set the gold standard in Zimbabwe through a refusal to compromise on quality.
1. Advanced Siting Technology
Nakiso doesn't guess; we use state-of-the-art geophysical equipment to map underground structures. This scientific approach ensures a much higher success rate compared to traditional "dowsing."
2. Specialized Drilling Rigs
Our fleet includes Standard Hydraulic, RC (Reverse Circulation), and Blast Hole rigs specifically designed to conquer Zimbabwe’s diverse and challenging terrain, from hard granite to loose Kalahari sands.
3. The Power of Class 10 Casing
We provide only Class 10 PVC casing, the highest grade available. With a 10mm wall thickness, it withstands underground pressure and prevents collapse. Made from 100% Virgin PVC, it ensures lifetime purity.
4. End-to-End Solutions
We are a true "one-stop shop." From the initial survey and ZINWA permit facilitation to solar pump installation and water tank mounting, Nakiso handles the entire project in-house.

Fact 1: Know Your Borehole Casings
The Preferred Borehole Casing In Zimbabwe Is Class 9 and 10 (Pressure Classes.)
This is because Class 9 and Class 10 Casings are more collapse resistant. The strength of a Casing is often described as collapse resistance.
Fact 2: Borehole Drilling Depth
The exact depth, of where the water is located, cannot be established by the drilling contractor nor the Water Surveyor (Borehole Siter).
Fact 3: There Is No 100% Guarantee
It is important to note that it is never a 100% guarantee that any hole will yield water, the amount and water quality can also not be guaranteed by the drilling contractor and water surveyor.
Fact 4: Siting Is Important
Making use of a hydrologist or traditional water diviner will increase your chances of having a successful borehole that will yield a sufficient amount of water.
Fact 5: Know The Risks
The risk of the borehole drilling lies with the property owner. The client will still be liable for the drilling costs irrespective of a borehole yielding water or not.
